Mathematical Foundations for STEM Applications New
This intensive, one-week online bootcamp bridges the gap between high school mathematics and introductory college-level STEM courses like mechanics, astrophysics, and engineering. Students will dive deep into the essential mathematical tools physicists use to decode the universe, moving from passive abstract calculations to active scientific applications. Through interactive, synchronous Zoom lectures and collaborative group problem-solving sessions via Columbia CourseWorks, students will master:
Vector analysis and directional components.
Trigonometric applications in spatial wave mechanics and force systems.
Dimensional analysis and order-of-magnitude estimations.
Linearized data, graphical slope modeling, and rate-of-change fundamentals.
Essential elements of Calculus
Prerequisite: Algebra II or equivalent: Students must possess a strong understanding of algebraic manipulation, systems of equations, and functions. Basic Geometry: Students must be familiar with coordinate geometry, triangles, and foundational geometric proofs. Pre-Calculus
