CSPA Announces the Winners of Its Centennial Student Essay Contest

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association is pleased to announce the winners of its Centennial Student Essay Contest.

As part of its Centennial celebration, CSPA invited high school seniors, who have participated or are currently participating on a school publication, to enter an essay competition for a chance to win three scholarship awards.

Entrants responded to the prompt, “How has working on a student publication contributed to your personal development and success?” They were also required to submit a letter of recommendation from a publications adviser, English teacher, or school administrator  in support of their application. Judging was conducted by a panel appointed by CSPA and the CSPA Advisers Association.

Winners will receive free registrations to the CSPA Spring Convention/Centennial Celebration and will also be invited to participate on a Centennial panel during the convention. Scholarships will be awarded to first, second, and third-place entries, as follows:

1st Place: $3,000: Wyatt Meyer
2nd Place: $1,500 Holden Lee
3rd Place: $500: Matthew Hofmann

Contest judges also wished to distinguish two honorable mentions, for Anna Koontz and Vivienne Levenberg, who submitted excellent work. They will be granted free admission to the CSPA Annual Spring Convention and will be invited to participate on a Centennial panel.

CSPA received an overwhelming amount of entries and would like to thank all those who entered the competition, and our judges, for their time and effort.

CSPA also thanks the Dow Jones News Fund, which has generously donated scholarships for the winners, for their continued support of CSPA.
