MaryBeth Apriceno
Instructor | Pre-College Programs
Dr. MaryBeth Apriceno is a social psychologist, assistant professor, and chair of the psychology department at Farmingdale State College (State University of New York). She earned her Masters and PhD in social and health psychology from Stony Brook University, and her Bachelors in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice (City University of New York). Dr. Apriceno’s doctoral research examined the prevalence of ageism toward older adults at both macro- (popular media) and micro-levels (interpersonal interactions), as well as ageism reduction through accurate aging education and intergenerational contact. After completing her doctoral studies, her research has focused on the impact of older adults’ perceptions of older adulthood on their aging, health, and longevity. At Farmingdale State College, Dr. Apriceno teaches courses in social and health psychology, as well as psychological statistics. She also supervises a social psychology research lab where she mentors undergraduates to design, conduct, and present their self-initiated research projects, including examinations of public perceptions of gentle parenting, sense of belonging in online gaming communities, and perceived morality of true crime content on TikTok and Youtube. Dr. Apriceno looks forward to fostering an interest in social psychology through the Pre-College Program.
