Instructor | Pre-College Programs
Cecilia Phillips Toro is a neurobiologist and a faculty member at Sarah Lawrence College. She received her BA in Biology from Reed College and her PhD in Neuroscience from Brown University, and she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Oregon Hearing Research Center and Vollum Institute at the Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Toro began teaching at the undergraduate level at Linfield College before moving to Sarah Lawrence, where she has been a faculty member in the biology department for the last six years. She has published papers on ion channels and neurotransmitter receptors, and her current research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of neurotransmission in sensory systems using the zebrafish model organism. Dr. Toro is also passionate about experiential education for undergraduates and has published studies on using model organisms in novel research-based undergraduate biology labs.
