James O'Brien

James O’Brien, Esq. attended the University at Albany (B.A.), Hofstra University (M.S.), and Albany Law School (J.D.). A career Social Studies teacher as well as practicing attorney, he has largely focused, as an educator, on project-based advocacy, which projects included students working on behalf of a death row inmate as well as a battered woman incarcerated for killing her abusive boyfriend. Previously employed at a general practice law firm, his current solo practice involves pro bono asylum work. He has a long history with Columbia’s Summer High School program, developing the Exploring Careers in Law class and creating the Law as a Tool for Social Justice course.
