Dr. Marie-Helen (Maria) Maras is a tenured Full Professor and the Director of the Center for Cybercrime Studies at Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York. Maria has a DPhil in Law and an MPhil and MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Oxford, an MA in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the University of New Haven, and a BS in Computer and Information Science and a BS in Psychology from the University of Maryland University College. Her academic background and research cover transnational crime, especially cybercrime, and the legal, ethical, social, and political impact of digital technology. Maria has published numerous peer-reviewed academic journal articles and books, including Cybercriminology (Oxford University Press) and Computer Forensics: Cybercriminals, Laws, and Evidence (now in its second edition; Jones and Bartlett), among other books. She serves as a subject matter expert on cybercrime and cyber organized crime for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Before her academic work, she served in the U.S. Navy.
