Nikki Barratt

Nicola Barratt is an Environmental Engineer with a focus on ecosystem restoration. She has a B.S. in Earth Sciences form the University of Delaware, an M.S. in Climate Modelling and Oceanography from Brown University and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Barratt has taught high school science in 8 countries around the world in the US, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. She is currently a Professor of Environmental Science and Studies at Quinnipiac University and the University of Connecticut. In all these academic settings, she builds partnerships with community organizations and businesses to develop authentic environmental projects for students both off and on-campus. Current projects include native plant, stream and lake restoration, climate friendly transportation, hydroponic agriculture and regenerative soil systems.She draws from her experience as a scientist and engineer to help students consider projects with a practical purpose and to be solution-oriented. She believes that a good teacher is one who inspires students to teach themselves; to be creative in their pursuit of answers; to sort through information in order to understand a world that is changing rapidly!
