Sophie Lalani

Sophie Lalani is a writer from Toronto, Canada. She is an MFA candidate in Creative Writing (Fiction) at Columbia University where she has completed her coursework and is currently working on her thesis. She also holds a BA, Honors Specialization in Media, Information, and Technoculture from Western University. Most recently, she led an Audio Storytelling discussion seminar within Columbia’s Undergraduate Writing Program as a Teaching Assistant. Previously, she taught writing in both the academic and the nonprofit sectors through Columbia Artist/Teachers. Her work explores the tensions between desire and ideology, power dynamics, gender performance, the conflicts between the inherited and acquired value frameworks of children of immigrants, and the intersections and dissonances between various forms of social capital. She’s also a copywriter, brand strategist, and content curator, working predominantly with female-founded brands.
