Instructor | Pre-College Programs
Stephen Metts is a Part-Time Associate Professor at Parsons School of Design at The New School, where he teaches courses in spatial thinking, geographic information systems (GIS), and urban analytics. He holds an M.A. in Community Development and Planning from Clark University. His teaching and research focus on how spatial data and mapping can support more equitable and sustainable urban environments. He is co-author of the 2024 book Climate Crisis, Energy Violence (Elsevier), which examines how energy systems are embedded in the fabric of cities and regions, and their impacts on vulnerable populations. In his courses, he emphasizes the integration of design, data, and critical thinking, guiding students to analyze the built environment and understand how infrastructure, land use, and environmental systems shape community outcomes.
