Dr. Karie Peralta

Instructor | Pre-College Programs

Dr. Karie Peralta is an associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio.  She obtained her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.  She teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses in beginning sociology, urban sociology, qualitative and quantitative research methods, applied sociology, professional development, and experiential learning in the Dominican Republic.  Her research interests include the community work of immigrant-serving nonprofit organizations, Dominican Studies, equity in informal STEAM education, community-based learning, and applied social research.  Before teaching, Dr. Peralta was a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic where she worked in the community economic development sector and supported ecotourism and education projects in the Samaná peninsula.  She also worked as the Student Life Director of Creighton University’s service-learning, study-abroad program, Encuentro Dominicano, in the Dominican Republic.
