Ayanna Alexander-Street

Ayanna Alexander-Street is a neuroscientist, doctoral lecturer and STEM outreach program director at the City University of New York. She earned her undergraduate degree in physiology and neurobiology at the University of Connecticut, conducting research on phytoestrogens and breast cancer. She earned her PhD in biology-neuroscience at Hunter College/CUNY Graduate Center. In her doctoral research, Ayanna investigated the cognitive effects of prenatal and early postnatal exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals such as Bisphenol A. After completing her doctoral studies, she researched the effects of drugs abuse and energy drink compounds on the adolescent brain. At CUNY, Ayanna teaches courses in anatomy and physiology and neuropharmacology, mentors undergraduate and masters students, and co-founded and served as the director of high school STEM outreach programs in the Bronx and Yonkers. She looks forward to fostering a continued love of science in the Pre-College Program students.
